COVID-19 has hit the world hard. With deep (and yet to be fully realized) impacts on human health and wellness, family life, business, the economy, sports, arts and entertainment, education, and our daily social interactions, the virus has already changed us. This is a Pivot Point unlike any we’ve experienced to date. And while some things will go back to “normal” once the virus is effectively treated, prevented and contained… others may never be the same.
Leaders, you have an important role to play. The people you serve—your team, customers, and the general community—well, they need to see and hear from you. Now more than ever. They need to know you have a clear head about what’s happening today and an informed perspective about what tomorrow may bring. They need to feel your strength and confidence. They need your guidance and balanced optimism. Most importantly, they need to know you are there for them. That you care.
I’ve seen extraordinary examples of leadership in recent days and I’d imagine you have too. Perhaps you are one of those leaders who has gotten out in front of your organization and customers—to provide clarity, direction, and reassurance. Perhaps you’ve made yourself visible and available in ways that instill hope, create calm, and reinforce adaptability, resilience, and focus.
Here’s the point. You’ve got to be seen and heard. Offer your balanced perspective. Be available for questions and concerns. Show compassion. Be brave and steady.
In the coming weeks and months, I will continue to provide you with ideas and tools to lead your organization and customers to the other side of this pandemic.
So go ahead and email me with specific topics you’d like me to address in upcoming articles and videos. Call when you need me. I am providing consultations and hands-on help to leaders and teams as they make their way through these unprecedented circumstances. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.
To your health, wellness, and continued success.
