In today’s high velocity, always-on business environment, leaders like you are expected to make incredibly rapid decisions, work at a break-neck pace, and achieve exceptional results—all without losing a moment’s time. Fast, faster, and faster yet. That’s the mandate from customers, colleagues, managers, business partners, boards, investors, and any number of other important stakeholders. Yet no individual, team, or organization can consistently and sustainably do its best when working at a frenetic pace or under constant, intense pressure.
Decisiveness is an essential leadership trait. Hasty decision-making? Not so much. Getting results quickly is important. Yet the pursuit of short-term wins can undermine a focus on longer-term growth. And an excessive attention to the daily tasks can get in the way of creating long-term strategic impact.
Take time out today to assess your team. Look closely at talent, individual and collective performance, potential, behavior, collaboration, communication, conflict resolution, and trust.
- Is your team performing at the highest possible level?
- Do you have the right people in the right roles doing the right things?
- Do you need to make any changes to structure or staffing to accelerate impact and improve outcomes?
